Internship opportunity for 2 artists living in Puerto Rico in collaboration with Penland School of Craft and Crafting the Future (*If you are not from Puerto Rico read below)
Overview
This one-month experience will offer 2 artists from Puerto Rico, focused on the medium of ceramics, the opportunity to travel to Penland in the mountains of Western North Carolina to participate in a two-week internship at Córdova Studios followed by a two-week hands-on ceramic workshop at Penland School of Craft.
Travel, lodging, food, and a weekly stipend are included.

Esta experiencia de un mes ofrecerá a 2 artistas de Puerto Rico, enfocados en el medio de la cerámica, la oportunidad de viajar a Penland en las montañas del oeste de Carolina del Norte para participar en una pasantía de dos semanas en Córdova Studios seguida de un taller práctico de cerámica en Penland School of Craft.Se incluyen viajes, alojamiento, comida y un estipendio semanal.

Experience:
A two-week internship at Córdova Studios In these two weeks, you will join Cristina Córdova at her space in Penland, helping her with the many details of running a studio and creating and finishing pieces. Each intern will have a working space and clay of their choice to develop their own work. In addition to the figurative construction and glazing techniques shared at Cordova Studios, interns will have the opportunity to tour two local ceramics studios where they will learn about production ceramics and large vessel construction. During our time together, we will discuss ideas, answer questions, provide constructive feedback, and keep a strong dialogue around building and maintaining a studio practice.
Ceramic Workshop at Penland School of Craft During this two-week session, interns will take one of two ceramic courses at the Penland School of Craft Clay Studio taught by Linda Nguyen Lopez –Handbuilding with Colored Clay and Mathew McConnell –The Uncanny Surface.
Travel Travel from Puerto Rico, from the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, as well as ground transportation to and from Penland will be provided.
Equipment and Materials At Córdova Studios, students will have access to 50 pounds of clay, as well as all studio equipment, including kilns, spray booth, and sandblaster. In addition, most raw materials for slip and glaze testing will be available. The Penland School workshops include all materials.
Meals and Lodging Penland School of Craft will provide all meals and lodging, which includes a shared bedroom and bathroom.
Stipend Interns will receive a stipend of $200 per week ($800 total) to offset additional costs and expenses.

Una pasantía de dos semanas en Córdova Studios En estas dos semanas, te unirás a Cristina Córdova en su espacio en Penland, ayudándola con los muchos detalles de administrar un estudio y crear y terminar piezas. Cada becario dispondrá de un espacio de trabajo y arcilla de su elección para desarrollar su propio trabajo. Además de la construcción figurativa y las técnicas de esmaltes compartidas en Córdova Studios, los pasantes tendrán la oportunidad de visitar dos estudios de cerámica locales donde aprenderán sobre la producción de cerámica y la construcción de vasijas grandes. Durante nuestro tiempo juntos, discutiremos ideas, responderemos preguntas, brindaremos comentarios constructivos y mantendremos un diálogo sólido sobre la construcción y el mantenimiento de una práctica de estudio.

Requirements Artist must be from Puerto Rico, currently living and working on the island. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Artist must submit the full application on or before February 15, 2024.
